SWPL leaders now with 13 point lead

The return of the SWPL after the Christmas break saw leaders Hibernian create a 13 point cushion between themselves and nearest challengers Kilmarnock with a 6-0 win away to Giulianos.

With Killie’s match at Shettleston postponed due to the poor weather conditions, Hibernian gave a powerful performance with Pauline Hamill and Suzanne Malone both netting twice, along with a goal each for Julie Ferguson and Louise Young to record a comfortable victory.

Manager Iain Johnston was delighted with his side’s latest win: "They put on a tremendous display today in extremely poor conditions. I think it was a much better performance than any of us could have hoped for after a two or three week lay off."

Lower down the table Hamilton recorded their first ever win over Cove Rangers in stunning fashion running out 7-0 victors.

Lesley Scanlan was their goal hero and capped a fine performance by grabbing a well taken hat trick, with Nicola Doherty adding two goals and Pam Liddell and Natalie McConville one each.

Another match to be played in atrocious conditions saw Raith record a hard-fought victory against East Kilbride eventually winning 2-1.

Kristy Scott was their eventual match winner for the Kirkcaldy side with an injury time effort to give her side the points.
