Leicester City Reserves 6 Sandiacre Town 1 Unison East Midlands Division 1 Ladies.

The Battle of the Little Big Horn / Custer’s Last Stand springs to mind when watching this 1st half. Sandiacre played 5, 3, 2 in hope of snuffing out the Leicester attack indeed it did seem to work until with 10 mins to go a bobbling ball slipped out of Caz Parkers grasp to put Leicester 1 nil up going into half time. Prior to that - Town had kept Leicester at bay and had forced them to take chances further away from goal.

Lynn Thomson came on after halftime and got a break that Town needed and in identical circumstances poached a goal after the keeper could not keep a grasp of the ball.

For ten minutes, Town looked strong until a cruel wind assisted deflection off the Town defender Laura Chambers and sliced into the back of the net.

This seemed to spark life into Leicester and they piled on the pressure and with Town not now having 5 players at the back struggled to hold on, and a flurry of goals followed to make the final score 6-1 to Leicester.

Lessons to be learned are: don’t eat to much Chrimbo pudding and train hard while the rest have a break during the Christmas period.

Some good touches from Nyci Thorns and Jess Wycombe were to be admired.

Leicester City player Fran Gamble scored a hat trick.
