Leeds United face league champions

Leeds United Ladies v Fulham Ladies
Sunday 22nd February 2004 2.00pm KO
Garforth Town, Wheatley Park Stadium, Garforth, Leeds
Leeds United Ladies get back to League action this Sunday when they entertain treble winners Fulham Ladies at Garforth Town in only their second league game of 2004. Which will be the first of three home games in a row against Fulham, Charlton & Arsenal.

Leeds United Ladies are flying high themselves and currently sit in third position in the Nationwide Women's National Premier League behind Charlton and League leaders Fulham. The last time the two sides met at Garforth it was in the quarter final of the League Cup, Leeds were narrowly beaten 3-2, Fulham scoring two goals in the final 15 minutes.

Although Fulhams unbeaten record in cup games was toppled recently, when they were beaten by Charlton in the FA Cup, Fulham do still remain unbeaten in the league for over two seasons.

Manager Julie Chipchase commented: "It will be nice to get back into some action after having such a long break in fixtures. Our last League game back in January saw us come back from Bristol with maximum points even though it was only 1-0, the score line certainly didn't reflect the game. I was extremely pleased in the way we defended throughout the team and that will be important on Sunday. We know we have to be on top of our game if we are to take anything from Fulham. If we work hard and play like we did in our last meeting here in the league cup, then I will be pleased.

We want to be competing with teams such as Fulham each year and hopefully we can do this, we can take much confidence from our league position. We had a fantastic crowd the last time we played Fulham at home and I hope the people of Leeds come and support the girls again, it certainly helps the players."

Admission: Adults £3, concessions £1.50

Reserve Team Championship awaits?

Leeds United Ladies could have their first championship title this Sunday, when the Leeds United Ladies Reserve Team travel to Everton in a vital National Reserve Northern League game. If they beat the current champions Everton on Sunday they will be crowned National Reserve Northern League Champions. If they don't win on Sunday, they still have four more games to get the three points needed to win the title for the first time in Leeds United Ladies History.

The team has been mostly made up of players under 20, who together with experienced Captain Lisa Woodhead and veteran Julie Lewis have only been beaten once in the league all season.

Leeds United Ladies England Internationals

Leeds United Ladies twenty five year old midfielder Sue Smith is in the England Ladies squad to face Denmark at Portsmouth's Fratton Park on Thursday evening which is to be screened live on Sky sports.
