Exmouth Town Ladies 12, Plymouth University 2
Westward League, Division 1
In the penultimate league game of the season, Town Ladies once again showed their superiority over a team lying below them in the Devon League. This was very much a one-sided game, which ended with the hapless Plymouth side down to nine women.
It took the home side a matter of five minutes before Kath Wright started the goal rush. Nic Smallacombe made a darting run down the left side, passed the ball to Kath, who lobbed the keeper from just inside the 18-yard box. However, a few minutes later, following a lapse of concentration at the back, Plymouth drew level.
This gave the Exmouth side a wake-up call, and they then began to play the game with conviction and determination. The Ladies produced some great goals to entertain the supporting crowds. Every Exmouth player made some skilful runs and pin-point passes to play their part in the eight goals scored in the first half.
In the second half, Exmouth quite literally ran rings around their opposition. Aside from another defensive error which lead to the second Plymouth goal, this was a great team performance. The game ended 12 – 2, with Nic Smallacombe netting her second double-hatrick of the season. Kath Wright scored four, and Dominae Weeks chipped in with another 2 goals. Woman of the match was Sally Dye.
Exmouth’s final league game of the season will be played against Rolle Rockets at the Marine Camp (2pm) this Sunday.
