Rolle Rockets 0, Exmouth Town Ladies 7
Westward League, Division 1
Town Ladies ended their first season playing in the Westward League on a high, with a seven goal victory over local rivals, Rolle Rockets. The Ladies haven’t lost a League match since 16th November, amassing a total of 29 points, and scoring an average of six goals a game.
Exmouth chose to play uphill in the first half, fighting against a biting wind. The playing conditions as they were, Exmouth struggled to play flowing football. To their credit, the students fought hard to close down the Town Ladies, and held their line at the back to bring the strikers off-side on several occasions. However, Exmouth did manage to break through the Rolle defence to score three good goals in the first half.
Exmouth upped the tempo in the second-half, and put together some fluent passing moves. As the game progressed, they were able to assert their authority on the game. The Ladies’ captain, Rachel Johnstone, was voted Woman of the Match for her tenacious performance at left-back, and was able to make some darting runs down the left-side of the pitch. Kath Wright and Nic Smallacombe, who have scored nearly 60 goals between them this season, again combined well up-front, netting 3 goals and 2 goals respectively. Sally Dye and Netty Reynolds also chipped in, both scoring with a well-taken half-volley.
A big thank-you to all our supporters who have followed us this season, and to our sponsor, Exmouth Motor Group.
