Wanderers’ Ladies end their season in style!

Bolton Wanderers Ladies Football Club will make their Reebok debut when they play their final game of the season on the hallowed turf of the Reebok Stadium on Sunday 16 May, kick off 3.00pm.

The ladies team will play host to a side consisting of select players from the North West Women’s Regional Football League, the league in which they play, and which will include players from various teams all over the North West including Liverpool, Preston, Wigan, Bury, Burnley and Manchester.

The ladies team are currently second in the NWWRFL Premier Division and have already this season reached the Semi Final of the League Cup.

Bolton Wanderers Ladies’ Team Manager Paul Maloney said: “It’s going to be a very significant day for the club and for the ladies football in the town.

“Leading a team out at the Reebok will be a dream moment for me and, of course, it will mean a lot to the players too.”

In recent years, ladies’ football has progressed but unfortunately the support has not been as strong. The FA now backs ladies football teams and works in conjunction with Bolton Wanderers Ladies Football Club to channel interest into the grassroots of the game.

Paul explained: “These days, at junior schools, girls play football alongside boys, something which was unheard of a generation or two ago.

“And because more and more girls are playing the game and because they have access to better coaching, standards are improving all the time and the national team’s profile has never been better.”

Paul has ambitions for his team and hopes the showdown at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday 16 May will serve as stepping stone in the ladies’ club’s long-term development, and as a tool to attract new interest and possibly new members to the ladies league.

The team train every Tuesday at St Joseph’s School, Bolton, and attract over 200 players at all age levels from under 10s right up to the senior level. Should you, your sister, your daughter or even your mother be interested in joining Bolton Wanderers Ladies Football Club then please contact Neil Fairclough on 01204 383 914 for further information.

Tickets for the game at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday 16 May, kick off 3.00pm, are priced at £2.00 for Adults and £1.00 for concessions.
Tickets will go on sale on Thursday 22 April 2004 and can be purchased by calling 01204 383 914. Tickets can also be purchased on the night at the turnstiles.
