Match details
Following a good start to the league season last week with a 4-0 win over Yale College of Wrexham, the Filton College girls were ambitious to maintain their winning momentum by notching another victory over local rival Hartpury College.

In a fairly contested opening few minutes it was Hartpury that looked the livelier of the two teams. The Hartpury girls, although only the bare 11, were combative and physical which took the Filton College squad by surprise in the opening minutes of the game.

Filton gradually came into the game, largely due to the efforts of striker Tracey Beales who ran tirelessly for the team. In a match, played in torrential rain and high winds, it was Tracey Beales who deservedly opened the scoring after only 10 minutes.

Filton’s impressive back four consisting of Helen Joint, Kathryn Lovett, Kelly Farmer and Captain Faye Slade, who kept every Hartpury attack at bay. It was Captain Faye Slade that again rallied the troops and with Tracey Beales showing for the ball at every opportunity the Filton team began to dominate their opponents.

Further goals from Tracey Beales in the 20 minute and Sharifa James (35mins) solidified the result and it was 3-0 at half time.
Half time
The second half started with a more lively attack from Filton. The Midfield duo of Becki Tweed and Kayleigh Greening began to dictate play. Captain Faye Slade was replaced by Jess Rudge-Hamblin on the hour as a precautionary measure due to a pulled hamstring pull and with a reshuffle of the team, Filton College’s dominance grew more evident as Jess Rudge-Hamblin produced a fine midfield display when she joined the game.

Neat passing and build up play allowed Jayanna Witt to get on the score-sheet and during a moment of individual brilliance saw Kayleigh Greening finish with a powerful shot passed the keeper. Further goals by Kayleigh Greening, Katie Michael and substitutes Laura Burgess & Shaylane Bartlett sealed the Filton College victory.

Special mention should go to, Player of the Match Tracey Beales, who scored 2 goals and helped create many more chances for her team mates. Tracey is on target to become the highest goal-scorer of the league with her impressive early season performances. Also noteworthy for the Filton College Female Football Development Centre was the goalkeeping efforts of stand-in keeper Lynsey Crewe who kept her second consecutive clean sheet.

The Filton squad go onto to play against Cardiff next Wednesday 19 October in what the squad hope is another victorious outing.
