Everton Ladies have secured an excellent 4-0 victory over Gintra Universitetas in the UEFA Cup.
Goals from Fara Williams, Jody Handley, Becky Easton and Rachel Unitt gave the Blues a perfect start to group proceedings in Lithuania.
Mo Marley’s side took the lead on 29 minutes when England international Williams hit a powerful long-range shot that evaded the goalkeeper.
A sense of déjà vu followed five minutes later, Handley fired a shot from 20-yards which again left the Gintra custodian helpless.
Easton put the game beyond the Lithuanian hosts with a back post header midway through the second half. Two minutes from time Unitt bagged the Blues’ fourth goal with a neat header.
Speaking to evertonfc.com after the match, Mo Marley admitted she was happy with the performance of her side.
“It was a good start and I was pleased with the performance,” said Marley.
“We could have scored more goals but it was pleasing that we did not concede a goal. It has been a bit of whirlwind since we arrived and we have not had that much time to prepare but the quality of the side shone through.”
Jody Handley was handed player of the match yet Marley was keen to celebrate the performance of the team.
“Jody had an excellent game and played a key role but it was a good team performance,” she said. “Gintra have played in the UEFA Cup before and their experience showed at times but it was a good team showing today.”
Elsewhere in Everton’s group, FCC Zuchwil comprehensively beat Glentoran 5-1.
