Scottish Women's Premier League round-up

Hibernian opened up a five point lead at the top in the Scottish Women’s Premier League over title challengers Glasgow City, following a 3-1 away victory over reigning Champions FC Kilmarnock in what was the top of the table clash.

The Edinburgh side had the bit between their teeth from the start and raced into an early lead when the ever alert Pauline Hamill swept them in front. But as you would expect the reigning champions came storming back, to go in at the interval all square from the penalty spot.

The second period saw both side’s cancel out each other, before two goalkeeping errors from Kilmarnock keeper Claire Johnstone – presented Mhairi Gilmour and Suzanne Malone with the opportunities to give the Easter Road side their 3-1 victory.

Newcomers Ross County maintained a fine run of form with a 1-0 home victory over Cove Rangers. The all-important goal from Central Defender Caroline Hather midway through the first period, to move the Dingwall side up into mid-table, in this, their first season in the top division.

In the remaining matches, Glasgow City remain as the nearest challengers to table toppers Hibernian following a comfortable 3-0 success at East Kilbride, with goals from Lyndsey Birrell 2, and youngster Suzanne Lappin.

Lauren Wheatley was her side’s hero as Raith Rovers moved into third spot following a comfortable 5-1 home win over second bottom Shettleston. The striker produced a fine personal performance, netting four goals in her side’s third victory of the season.
