League leaders Hibernian maintained their position at the top of the SWPL with a 1-0 win but were pushed all the way by Raith Rovers. Hibs, went into the match missing several key players, dominated the game throughout but showed a lack of composure in front of goal. However, It wasn't until the hour mark that Julia Ralph gave them a slender lead which they held to secure their latest victory to maintain pole position in the table.
Reigning Champions FC Kilmarnock encountered similar problems against a spirited Newburgh side eventually winning 2-1. Stacey Cook gave Killie the lead before Newburgh clawed their way back into the match to draw level, but youngster Joanne Love scored a second-half effort to give the Reigning Champions three vital points.
Glasgow City encountered no such problems as they overcame bottom side Shettleston Juniors 7-0. Scotland international Debbie McWhinnie made a telling contribution to keep up the pace on Kilmarnock and Hibernian, scoring five times in the convincing win, while Lyndsey Birrell and Suzanne Lappin adding the other two.
Meanwhile, in the remaining match Ross County had to battle all the way when they overcame fellow newcomers Hamilton 3-2 Hamilton came from behind twice with goals from Lynsey Hogg and Amy McDonald but the Ross-shire side finished the stronger, playing without Scotland captain Julie Fleeting who failed to pass a late fitness test, with efforts from Paula Scott, Lisa McKenzie and Suzanne Grant eventually securing the points following a hard fought encounter.
