Darlaston Ladies impressive victory

Yates v Darlaston Ladies
7th December 2003

Impressive Darlo handed out another drubbing on Sunday, this time to Yates! The Pelsall based team had no answer to Darlo’s determination and firepower as they went down to wave after wave of attacks from the visiting side. Stacey Aitken struck first blood when she beat three defenders and the keeper to stroke the opener home. Tina Carpenter, then scored her first of the afternoon with a stunning volley on the turn!!

Such was the confidence of Darlo that Shell, Emma, Beefy and Taz at the back were clearing away attacks, and linking intelligently to join the attack themselves when the game allowed. Elyse Gibbs, making one of only a few starts this season looked accomplished in midfield and was unlucky not to score when her impressive lob beat the keeper, only to cannon off the bar. Shani Fieldhouse, 16 only last week, continues to impress in all aspects of her game from her gritty tackles to her classy forward runs. Her link play with Maz on the left important in keeping Yates penned back in their own half.

Darlo were 0-5 up after the first half, a brace each for Carpenter and Aitken, plus one from Chatfield.

The second half was much the same as the first. Darlo made two substitutions just after the re-start, Sarah Henn (Chick) took over on the right wing. It took no time for her to execute a perfect pull back from the by-line for Carpenter to Ram home. The addition of Player Manager Jayne Woodhall served only to increase the superiority of Darlo, as they added another seven goals in the second half to win the game by an overwhelming 0 – 12.

Goal Master Carpenter was player of the match having scored 7 of the 12 goals – Winger Chatfield scored a hat trick, and Aitken scored the other 2 – but the award could so easily have gone to Gibbs for a great first half, or to Shell Taylor who has been the in eyes of many people the player of the season so far for her impressive displays in the heart of the defence!
