Steel's battle it out in 10 goal thriller
Sunday 9th January
It was a cold & windy sunday afternoon on our trip to Sandiacre who were our opponents for today and we knew it was going to be a tough but, end to end game.
Steel's started well, playing some excellent football. We had Sandiacre on the backfoot from the start and when a Sandiacre player was judged to have handled the ball in the area the referee awarded a penalty, so up stepped Rachael who slotted the ball straight into the net 1-0.
Then Steel's gave possesion away and Sandiacre equalised when they pumped the ball forward straight over our defence. Their striker ran on to it and put it away - 1-1.
But then Steel City hit back and went 3-1 up with two excellent goals from Sarah Hancock. However, due to Steel's losing concentration Sandiacre got one back straight away 3-2.
Steel's hit back again when Katie Hanson received the ball on the halfway line and went on a great run getting passed their defence and striking it, well but the keeper parried it and it fell to Lauren, who had followed it up and she put it in the net - 4-2.
Unfortunately, Steel's just seemed to stop playing football and Sandiacre hit back twice putting them level 4-4. But just before half-time, the ball fell to Abbey on the edge of their box and she struck it well putting it past the keeper 5-4 at half-time.

The second half Steel's seemed to be asleep and Sandiacre equalised early to put them level again - 5-5.
Then Steel's put all the pressure on for the rest of the game and should have scored a few more goals but luck didn't seem to be on our side and couldn't put our chances away, plus we had also hit the crossbar twice final score - 5-5.
It was a great performance by Steel City, everyone battled hard from start to finish & we proberbly should have won it but a draw seemed fair on the day.
