Huntingdonshire Regional College
http://www.huntingdon.ac.uk
The FDC is a full time college course which incorporates academic studies alongside full time training and competitive matches for the Huntingdonshire Regional College (
www.huntingdon.ac.uk
).
The players train 4 days a week in the afternoons at the college and play in the British College.s league on a Wednesday Afternoon.
This structure enables players to experience life as a full time footballer and gives them the opportunity to work with qualified F.A. and UEFA licence coaches who have played professional football as well as giving them valuable career based qualifications within the Sports and Leisure industry.
The benefits of the course are positive for both the player and his local side. By accessing full time training the players reach higher standards of fitness as well as developing skill levels and tactical knowledge through working in a professional environment.
Professionalism and self discipline are also major parts of the player.s development and this proves to be an asset both on and off the pitch.
Players are required to have an enthusiasm for football and a genuine willingness to learn and develop themselves as a player and a person.
Players of the FDC are selected on performance in trials and interview situations.
Players are guided through the F.A. Level 1 and 2 coaching certificates to further enhance their own football knowledge, as well as giving them specific qualifications to help them gain employment once they have completed the course.
As mentioned above, to be successful players need
General fitness
Motivation
Self discipline
