An introduction to the record breaking AFC Bournemouth Ladies, who are always looking for any new players who are up for the challenge.
History
1999
The club was formed and contained only of 2 teams, which were called:
AFC Bournemouth Charlies Angels
AFC Bournemouth Dorset Devils
These 2 teams both entered the Dorset under 14's league, which was a success since "Charlie's Angels" came 2nd and
"Dorset Devils" 3rd. The club gradually grew, and now has 6 teams.
2000/2001
The same theme was continued, with the Club emphesis being on participation and community work.
2002
A New Look for 2002 season was a mandate for excellence which included the club introducing an open aged ladies team,
which entered the Dorset Womens league. We also continued to develop our youth side and entered an Under 10's side
into the Dorset League. Once again we entered an under 12's side, and two Under 14's side.
This season turned out to be the best season yet with every team playing some great football and acheiving some great
results.
| | Under 10's came runners up in their league. |
| | Under 12's won their league and were undefeatable. |
| | Under 14's Young Ladies also won their league, and the Cherries came 3rd. |
| | Ladies achieved promotion in their first league after coming runners up in their league. |
| | Ladies also won the Dorset cup after beating the South West Champions 3-1. |
Another great boost for the club, was the partnership / sponsorship we gained with New Look.
Mr Abdul Jaffer has lots of business contact with Craig Mulholland and as a result of this, New Look was approached
about becoming the main sponsor of the women's group.
New Look was looking to sponsor a group that they felt would be a natural partner. They wanted to find a sports team
that had ambition, showed potential and makes a good political statement about New Look and their involvement in
community sport.
New Look are now showing the sort of support that a group like AFCB Ladies will need to sustain the push towards
Premier League football, and we are very thankful for that.
2003
We now have an Under 13's and an Under 15's team in the Dorset Girls league. We also have a youth group operating in
the Dorset Women's league as AFC Bournemouth Young Ladies and created a new club AFC Bournemouth Ladies who are
affiliated to the Hampshire league and play in the Southern Region league.
Mission Impossible
2002/3
The first ever AFC Bournemouth Young Ladies open age team entered the Dorset Women's League and the Dorset Women's
cup, and here's how they got on....
First game of the season saw the Cherries lose 7-2 to Corfe Hills with the oldest player being only 17 at the time.
They carried on battling throughout the season and managed to win a few matches and attract a few new players from
Bournemouth University, Southampton Saints and a few local players. The squad soon became a lot stronger and it didn't
take long before they were settled down and starting to work well together, and this hard effort by the team and
coaching staff was made obvious when the Cherries broke the Dorset Cup record, being the first ever female group to
win the Cup in their first league, aswell as coming runners up in the league and gaining promotion in their first ever
season. The Cup final saw them face Dorchester Town, who at the time were already champions of the South West League
which was a league higher than ours. The main game which showed how much the group had progressed was their last game
of the season which was against Corfe Hills again. The Cherries won this game 16-3 and totally outclassed Corfe.
This season
The main aim for all the youth groups this year, is to encourage them to play as well as they can as a team, and to
focus on the individual's development. The Young Ladies in the Dorset League is more of a stepping stone for the
youth sides, so they have somewhere to gain the experience needed to progress into the Senior side. The Ladies main
objective is to carry on their great progress, and continue to rise up the Ladies pyramid. (Get Promoted!) This has
gone very well so far and after Sunday, the 9th top of the table clash against Luton Town Belles, where the Cherries
came out on top 2-0. We are now favourites to win the Southern League.
The Future
The main aim of the club is to develop as many top level footballers possible, and help them to achieve their dreams.
We as a club would also like to achieve our dream and play at the highest level possible. With as much fun as we
can.
We are always looking for any new players who would like to try and achieve the dream with us, and have fun along the
way, so if you're up for the challenge contact us.
