Spotlight news article Team Spotlight: Durham University WAFC Article ID: 684 Reporter: Durham University WAFC A Brief History Durham University WAFC was formed in 1990 to give those more experienced women footballers in the university a chance to compete with other universities in BUSA and to encourage participation and progression in the sport at college level. Our position now We are currently the only university sports club which is officially allowed to permit its members to play for both university and for their college, giving flexibility to those who are both loyal to their college but who would also like to play at a higher level. We welcome anyone who has had any previous experience as well as those who have played for their college team and feel they would like to advance their game a little further. The clubs' success and development over the course of the year has prompted the club to form a 2nd team. Is it for you? If you are interested please feel free to attend one of our training sessions to get a feel for our game and meet some of the team (don't be put off - we can't all bend it like Beckham!). Being a member of our club is more than just playing football. The frequency with which the club members meet (match days, training sessions and organised socials) makes for a great club atmosphere and fun and varied social life. You'll have a fantastic time and make some great friends at the same time! The Future Our hope is that the Durham University Women’s Football Team will build upon the astounding success of the 2002-2003 season and will continue playing a high standard of winning football well into the future. With an enthusiastic and highly committed exec already in place for the coming season, the club is buzzing with excitement and optimism as the 2004 season approaches. With plans to enter a second team into the BUSA league next season, the Durham University Women’s Football Team will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
