Rangers stay top of SWPL after goalless draw with Celtic

Visiting goalkeeper Pamela Tajonar produced a string of stellar saves to keep her side just a point adrift of the reigning champions.

After the break, set-piece specialist Tessel Middag cracked a free-kick off the Celtic upright.

And, when the midfielder's free-kick landed on Hannah Davison's head to present the unmarked defender with the game's best opportunity, the expectant Broadwood crowd watched on as it was steered wide from five yards.

White, who featured alongside Mead for the Lionesses' triumph at the UEFA Women's Euro and announced her retirement after the tournament, has backed her former international teammate to return better than ever before.

Newcastle's women's team feel 'empowered' as they prepare for St James' Park return

The chance of fulfilling a childhood dream meant her local village organised a bus to transport all her friends and family to the match, as a record 22,000 fans watched the fourth-tier side beat Alnwick Town.

Goalkeeper Donnelly says that "support for the team has skyrocketed" since that 4-0 win, and with the city buzzing from the success of the men's team, whose season has been paused for the World Cup, the players cannot wait to hear "the power of the crowd" again.

'We came back really strong' - Lia Walti gives Arsenal verdict after Juventus draw

Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti has praised her team's mentality after the Gunners came back against Juventus to secure a crucial point in the Champions League on Thursday.

Jonas Eidevall's side suffered their first loss of the season at the weekend after a late goal from Alessia Russo saw Manchester United triumph at the Emirates. It looked like Arsenal could be on course for a second straight defeat when Netherlands international Lineth Beerensteyn put Juventus ahead in Turin.

However, a superb header from Vivianne Miedema saw the Gunners level things up at the Allianz Stadium to extend their unbeaten European run.

Jonas Eidevall calls for women's football calendar to put player health first

Arsenal are dealing with a swathe of injury problems to key first team players, with Leah Williamson, Rafaelle, Kim Little and Beth Mead all currently long-term absentees.

Arsenal allowed Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley to have time off from club football in February after the 2022 Women's Asian Cup, while Vivianne Miedema was recently granted a leave of absence to 'rest and recharge'.

"There is always the balance between freshness and having continuity in the training and playing," Eidevall said. "We need to strike that balance. You can see that Viv was fighting really hard today with the team on the pitch."
